Cavendish's Treasure (O tesouro de Cavendish) is a zine made in partnership with Stella Elia, published by BabaYaga collective (São Paulo - Brazil).
Cavendish was a real pirate that anchored in Ilhabela, an island in São Paulo State coast, that means "Beautiful Island".
Gathering the rich local folklore and the oral tradition stories around Cavendish's legend, Stella wrote this story with a taste of a classic thrilling pirate adventure with a pinch of humor. We crafted this zine purposefully simple on it's form - one sheet of paper with simple folds, that goes with a little handmade bag with Brazilian gemstones, everything wrapped up in a simple kraft box. Simple and relatable, to inspire children to make their own games out of imagination.
On one side of the zine, we find the story, illustrated in black ink to resemble classic pirate story books. Flipping over the zine, we find a map of Ilhabela island painted in watercolor, inspired by maps of the Age of Exploration, that is also a board game: as the players roll the dice and advance in their paths, they encounter Folklore creatures and need to overcome obstacles that are untold parts of this adventure!...
